James Estes, Psy.D.

Dr. Estes is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families. Having never outgrown his love of play and curiosity for how kids learn and grow, Dr. Estes pursued the field of psychology. He completed his B.S. in Psychology from Regis University and earned his Doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University of Colorado - Denver. Dr. Estes completed his predoctoral internship at the Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic at the University of Denver, where he gained extensive experience in developmental disabilities evaluations, including learning disabilities (reading, writing, and math), ADHD, and school-related problems due to social and emotional concerns.

Dr. Estes has spent the last three years working as a school psychologist in the Cherry Creek School District. He ascribes to the philosophy that kids do well if they can and believes that kids need to be taught social and emotional skills in order to be problem-solvers and thrive in their daily lives. In the school setting, Dr. Estes helps students, families, and teachers build strong connections and create a safe, fun, and accessible learning environment. Within treatment, Dr. Estes incorporates psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, goal-setting, collaborative problem-solving, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies. Providing a safe and joyful therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance to Dr. Estes.

When not at work, Dr. Estes likes being active and taking care of his own physical and mental well-being. He loves competing in team sports and has had a passion for basketball since he was a small child. Dr. Estes is also an avid runner: he ran for his college cross country team at Regis University and has ran several marathons and an ultramarathon since. To unwind and reset, Dr. Estes enjoys binging shows on Netflix and chilling with his dogs, Reggie and Fay.
