James Estes, Psy.D.

I am a Psychologist Candidate completing post-doctoral hours to become a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families. Having never outgrown my love of play and curiosity for how kids learn and grow, I pursued the field of psychology. I completed my B.S. in Psychology from Regis University and earned my Doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University of Colorado - Denver. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic at the University of Denver, where I gained extensive experience in developmental disabilities evaluations, including learning disabilities (reading, writing, and math), ADHD, and school-related problems due to social and emotional concerns.

I have spent the last three years working as a school psychologist in the Cherry Creek School District. I ascribe to the philosophy that kids do well if they can and believe that kids need to be taught social and emotional skills in order to be problem-solvers and thrive in their daily lives. In the school setting, I help students, families, and teachers build strong connections and create a safe, fun, and accessible learning environment. Within treatment, I incorporate psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, goal-setting, collaborative problem-solving, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies. Providing a safe and joyful therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance to me.

When not at work, I like being active and taking care of my own physical and mental well-being. I love competing in team sports and have a passion for basketball since I was a small child. I am also an avid runner: I ran for my college cross country team at Regis University and have ran several marathons and an ultramarathon since. To unwind and reset, I enjoy binging shows on Netflix and chilling with my pug, Reggie.
