Welcome to Canyon Pines Counseling! I’m so glad you have taken the first step in finding support.

I have been working with children and families over the last 25 years. My specialties include stress, anxiety, depression, focus/attention, anger,  healthy relationships, life transitions, self-worth, divorce, loss, trauma, grief/loss, and mindfulness.  I use a client-centered, cognitive behavioral, and solution focused approach in my therapeutic practice.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  EMDR is a research based treatment that facilitates our brain’s natural ability to heal from traumatic experiences and negative beliefs. It may successfully provide treatment for PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, phobias, sleep problems, complicated grief, addictions, pain relief, and self esteem. https://www.emdria.org/

I am also a certified Synergetic Play Therapist. Synergetic Play Therapy (2008) is a research informed model of play blending the therapeutic power of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity to provide emotional healing and symptom reduction (acting out, aggressive behaviors, somatic complaints, withdrawal, regression, etc.). www.synergeticplaytherapy.com.

I have a  Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and my undergraduate degree is in Family Studies and Human Services from Kansas State University. Some of my professional experiences include raising 2 children; school counseling; case management with women and children at an inner city family center; and acting as the Director of Children and Family Ministries at a church. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor by the state of Colorado and a professional member of the following organizations:  American Counseling Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, EMDR International Association, Synergetic Play Therapy Association, American School Counselor Association, and the Colorado School Counselor Association.

The therapeutic relationship is an important part of treatment.  I look forward to getting to know you and your family during this process.  I welcome your questions regarding me as a person and therapist.  In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and 2 young adults.  I also enjoy hiking, cooking, gardening, paddleboarding, snowshoeing, reading, and training my goldendoodle, Lucy.  Lucy often joins in on therapeutic sessions.  She adores people of all ages  and looks forward to being part of the therapeutic process!
